Personal Action Plans
PERSONAL ACTION PLAN ASSIGNMENT
ACTION GOAL
Identify an existing inequity and engage in a personal action project to better understand and help dismantle it.
REFLECTION GOAL
Reflect on ways in which you have contributed to or challenged inequities in and out of schools.
The above two course goals require you to propose some type of personal action plan project related to equity and social justice. The choice of project is highly individual and will be determined by your particular professional and/or personal situation. Examples of projects participants have done in the past include:
Developing a social justice education workshop for colleagues;
Attending school board meeting to weigh in on an issue with important equity and social justice implications;
Getting involved in community organizations that advocate for the rights of people over whom they enjoy some level of privilege;
Initiating a series of organized dialogues among teachers and administrators about racism in schools;
Writing a grant to support equity and social justice in one or more schools
Preparing activities to engage students in confronting inequities in the school environment.
The Personal Action rubric details the contents of the plan. Post an initial description of plan online. During our last meeting time together, you will present your proposed plan with the group. In addition, please submit a written description of the plan (3 page maximum) (double-spaced). Your plan should answer the following:
· What inequity did you set out to address; what was the purpose of your action?
· Who participated in your action?
· What goals/outcomes did you hope to achieve by your action?
· What was the impact of the action?
· Will you continue the action you have begun?
The project will be graded using the Personal Action rubric.
