Art Attack 1990-2007

Nelson Art Attack Club is a new club starting in 2023 inspired by Miss Webb's love of the British children's television programme of the same name. The TV show ran from 1990 - 2007 and was originally hosted by Neil Buchanan. Check back here for regular updates on our weekly art adventures.

Week 17

Monday 18th  March

Spring Festival!
This week at Nelson is our annual Spring Festival in which we celebrate all things to do with the arts. Music performances, poetry and of course an art trail.

Art Attack Club was located in the dining hall along with this years art exhibition. We have begun work on a mural to celebrate the school's creativity and our community which will be displayed in our KS2 playground. We had lots of fun working on this ... sorry Mrs Cullen about the paint that landed on the floor!

Have you completed yours yet?

Just the beginning...

Everyone got stuck in!

Week 16

Monday 11th  March

Fabric Printing
The children who went to the art workshop last week led the session in printing on fabric - check back soon for more information and images of our work!

Artist Workshop

Wednesday 6th  March

Artist Workshop
Some very lucky members of Art Attack Club were selected to take part in a very exciting art workshop.

Students were creatively challenged to respond to the work of the Home On Me Collective and worked with Zehra, one of the artists directly.

Next month the students will take part in a photoshoot with the work they created during this workshop and will be featured in the Art Matters Exhibition 2024 in collaboration with V&A East.

Fourth Plinth
We have been very busy preparing our entries for this year's Fourth Plinth Schools Awards. The brief was to to get creative and produce a work of art inspired by the contemporary art commissions for Trafalgar Square’s Fourth Plinth.

There are winner and runner-up prizes for different age categories: 5-7 years, 8-11 years, as well as prizes for the best work from each borough. There’ll also be a presentation ceremony at new City Hall and all winning entries will appear in an exhibition in late spring.

Fingers crossed for our students! 🤞

Week 10 & 11

Monday 8th  &  15th January

Snowscapes
With the possibility of snow, we set about creating our very own snowscapes using watercolour paints. This took us two sessions as it was really important that the watercolours had time to dry. We started off by painting the background, blending mixtures of blue and purple. Whilst it was drying we practiced sketching fir tress and using our paint strokes to recreate their texture. To finish off our paintings we flicked watered down white acrylic paint in order to get the snowing effect!

We hope these paintings don't make you feel too chilly 🥶

Week 9

Monday 18th December

Winter Crafts
With only a few days until the winter holidays, we decided to make some snowflake inspired decorations. Made from paper and string only,  we think these simple decorations look wonderful!

Week 8

Monday 11th December

Portraiture Project
This week in our 5th session of our portraiture project  we explored continuous line drawing with coloured wool. We really loved the vibrant wool colours and how simple lines can create a bold impact.

Week 7

Monday 4th December

Portraiture Project
This week in our 4th session of our portraiture project  we used acrylic to paint our portraits. We selected and mixed colours that you wouldn't expect to see on us. We think this suits us, what do you think?

Week 6

Monday 27th November

Portraiture Project
This week in our 3rd session of our portraiture project  we took inspiration from artist Julian Opie. We used plastic sheets to trace our portraits and then collaged block colours and patterns to create a mordern abstract take on Opie's work.

Week 5

Monday 20th November

Portraiture Project
In our second session of our portraiture project we have begun to draw ourselves. This is known as a self portrait. We have been drawing from pictures of ourselves. Some of us chose poses that really let our personalities shine through.  What do you think so far?

Week 4

Monday 13th November

Portraiture Project
We are beginning our portraiture project by exploring observational drawing. We looked carefully at our partners to see what shapes and lines we could see. We wanted to make our sketches realistic so we applied shading, thinking about where light and shadow falls on eachother's faces.

Week 3

Monday 30th October

Halloween Pop-Ups
With Halloween fast approaching, we were inspired to make pop-up cards to spook our friends and family!
This project was very simple, yet very effective. All we needed was; black card, white card, a pencil, a ruler and some colouring pens/pencils. Using mountain folds and careful cutting, our cards appeared to come to life. What halloween creature would you try creating?

Week 2

Monday 16th October

Painting with Marbles
In this week's session we worked collaboratively to explore what marks are made when marbles are rolled through paint. We thought carefully about what two colours we wanted to use and how this might effect the final outcome.  We discovered that the groups that used less paint had very different results to the groups that used more paint.  We liked our end results but we thought that in the future we could try this again but use different sized balls or possibly even round fruits instead! What round objects would you try rolling?

Week 1

Monday 9th October

Vanishing Points
Have you ever tried to make your drawing look 3-dimensional but found it tricky? In this week's session we thought about how things appear smaller, the further away they get from the viewers eye. We used a vanishing point to give our names an interesting perspective. We think the results look very cool!
