Highlights
Every time you do a song, story, ABC/Number story or cultural skit for class, you are also trying out for the show in April. All of these will be done in the Fall semester in class (ASL 1 the song is optional) since these are also tryouts for the World Language Tour January or February. There are a limited number of students who can be in the World Language Tour since it involves the other languages and cultural groups. All levels will sign songs before Spring break, which serve as the last tryout before the talent show in April.
Song choice is a very important factor in being chosen for the talent show. If you pick a song that you like, but is not appealing to a general audience, it is less likely to be chosen. Any song has to be done well to be chosen, but it all starts with choosing a song that everyone can enjoy. Also, it should be entertaining the way you sign/perform it. The goal for ASL students is to not sign English, but translate to ASL as well as use expression and movement. While each student has their own strengths, it is usually a combination of song choice, use of ASL, expression, movement and creativity. Signing songs well is not easy and takes ongoing translation and making changes to improve it.
Songs signed in class and turned in before Thanksgiving holiday.
The 2020 Spring show would have been spectacular as usual as there were so many great songs performed the week before Spring break.
