This year's new opportunity for ASLHS and ASL Angels (click on story to the left)
ASL Honor Society students will now be available for tutoring other MacArthur ASL students. Not only will this help meet service hour requirements, but will allow these ASL HS students to "earn their wings." After tutoring a specific number of hours, these tutors will become ASL Angels and receive their Angel shirts.
16 new ASL Angels were added to the 2 returning angels during the 2020-2021 year. The majority volunteered to do 1 on 1 tutoring remotely, others taught at the public zoom sign language class. 5 will be teaching ASL for the KINS program this Spring.
The original group of ASL Angels were a group of 5 dedicated students who volunteered their time (outside of their own ASL class) to help other ASL students. This happened over a long period of time. In several cases, it was years of giving up a majority of their lunches to come help ASL students.
The next group evolved from a new online tutoring program that came about during the COVID and remote learning time. This was a very special need and time for more Angels to get their wings.
This year, 2022-2023, a new batch of ASL Angels got their winged shirts. These students had done community service either in the Fall at the Brook Hollow Library ASL classes or this Spring teaching for the KIN after school program.
This year's 3 new Angels were selected by a predermined number of service hours.
This year's Angels were announced at the World Language Tour show.
