ELAR

"I'm not saying that either Socs or greasers are better; that's just the way things are." - Ponyboy Curtis in The Outsiders

This week officially kicks off the start to our first in-class novel The Outsiders.  To say I'm excited about reading this book alongside students is an understatement - - this is my favorite book.  Ever.  From family and friendships, to social class clashing and understanding, to empathy, to choices, to the struggle of living between childhood and adulthood ... there is so much to explore about the human condition.  We will read the novel in class almost daily, with sets of study guide questions rounding out each chapter.  Additionally, students will keep a Thought Log that will allow them to explore, by chapter, more personal connections to the novel.

MATH

"Mathematics is the abstract key which turns the lock of the physical universe."

-John Polkinghome

Algebra: This week we begin Unit C, Solving Linear Equations. Students will write equations for situations and solve for one variable. Solving at the algebra level includes distribution with more complex equations than students practiced last year.

Geometry:  We will take Unit 2 test over angle relationships on Wednesday September 27. Students will need to be able to apply definitions (complementary, supplementary and vertical angles) as well as theorems related to parallel lines with a transversal to find missing angles. Extra practice for Unit 2 is available in DeltaMath.

Tutoring: Thursday before and after school or by appointment. mlund@neisd.net

SCIENCE

"The best way to predict the future is to create it." - Peter Drucker

Last week, we completed our Universe unit (galaxies, stars, EM spectrum) and students tested over the material and did a fabulous job!

This week we will be modeling Earth's rotation on its axis causing day and night and the revolution of Earth around the Sun contributing to Seasons. We will complete several exercises practicing identifying seasons at different locations. Students need to be familiar with length of day, direct/indirect light, and the season at each location for both the Northern and Southern hemisphere.

Upon completion of Seasons, we will move on to the Lunar Cycle.

Tutoring is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays, students can attend from 7:45-8:15 am.

U.S. History through 1877

We are Living History!

💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥

Happy Week Seven! We have a quiz this week!

We did it! We've covered all the causes of the American Revolution! From the Navigation Act through the Declaration of Independence, your historian should be able to explain the motivation behind revolutionary sentiment and identify major events that led to Revolution.

If your historian is struggling to do this, fear not! We are going to spend week seven doing activities to review the causes of the Revolution. Then, we will take quiz over the causes of the Revolution Friday 9/29. In addition to in-class review, as usual, my slides are posted in Google Classroom, as well as a Review Gimkit your historian can play to review.

AV Comm/Video Game Design

Greetings DATA Families!
Have a great week!

AV Comm: Students will start their unit in art next week, as we had a setback. During this unit, students will learn how to apply the elements and principles of art to create artifacts that represent these concepts in their graphic design work.

Video Game Design: Students will implement a well-written version of Pong. They will practice programming loops and nests to execute their programs and follow coding conventions to create a readable and maintainable program. This project serves as a summative assessment for the unit, where students are expected to demonstrate mastery of all the skills covered.

My email is emalin@neisd.net --Mrs. Malin

Tutoring is available Tuesday mornings and by
appointment.

Mr. Lovett's Classes

Can I brag, for just a moment? I have been teaching the content of this course for four years. This group of students has MASTERED creating walls, windows, and doors in SketchUp. AND they have done it in record time. I hope you commend them for their hard work! Next week students will continue the interior design unit

Digital Media 2:

Symmetry September is coming to a close.  Many students have already completed their Symmetry September projects. Next week we are going to finish up our symmetry unit with a culminating symmetry project! I can't wait to see what they produce!

There will be a test on Monday 9/25 over legal issues for digital media creators.
