ELAR

"Please believe that one single dream is more important than a thousand negative realities. " - Adeline Yen Mah, author of Chinese Cinderella

We continue reading and studying

Chinese Cinderella.

We do have some high school business to tend to - we will spend a class period this week completing the "four-year plan" in Skyward.  Our counseling department would like families to know that this plan is not permanent and may be adjusted over time with students and their HS counselors.  Additionally, the EW counseling department will be reaching out to families regarding the four-year plan, and a parent/guardian signature will be requested.

MATH

"Mathematics may not teach us to add love or subtract hate, but it gives us hope that every problem has a solution."

Algebra: We have finished testing, and will now be moving on to preparing students for Geometry! Some topics will be a review (parallel and perpendicular lines) and some will be algebra teks we haven't yet covered (simplifying radicals). It is important that students continue to come to school ready to learn so that they can get the most out of these last five weeks before high school.

Geometry: Unit 9 is the study of three dimensional figures! We will begin by reviewing volume and surface area this week, which will mostly be familiar concepts. Students will then explore how changing dimensions affect the properties of the figures.

Tutoring: Thursday before and after school or by appointment. mlund@neisd.net

SCIENCE

Science may set limits to knowledge, but should not set limits to imagination.

-Bertrand Russell

We will continue working on our pre-Physics unit to better prepare our students for high school Physics. We started with one dimensional kinematics, focusing on velocity, position, acceleration, and displacement.

Students will continue working on lab simulations where they can practice manipulating variables to determine effects. We will focus on how the laws of physics apply to everyday life, focusing on the following questions:

Tutoring is offered on Mondays and Fridays from 3:45-4:15.

U.S. History through 1877

We are Living History!

🌎👑☕⚔️📜🏭🏔️🚂☝️💥👇🗳️

You're entering your last month with an 8th grader! Soon  you'll be telling people, "this is my high schooler!" Where did the time go!?!

So, good news and bad news for this previous week! We lost wifi access this week in my portable and the End of Year Yearbook project did not pan out. But, we pivoted to something more hands on! Your historian is now hand making an A to Z children's book all about American History! They are playing the role of both author and illustrator, and using the ideas and topics we covered to make a well designed picture book.
