MATH

"Do not worry about your difficulties in mathematics. I can assure you mine are still greater." -Albert Einstein

Algebra: We will begin our last unit of algebra: Exponential Functions this week. Students studied linear functions last semester, which represent repetitive addition. Similarly, exponential functions represent repetitive multiplication, and grow much faster. Applications of exponential functions include population growth, disease spread, interest rates, and carbon dating.

Geometry: The next unit in geometry is super important: Circles! Students already know a lot about circles, and we will extend that knowledge to include new vocabulary and calculate lengths and areas of portions of a circle.  We will also introduce the unit circle, which relates angles to portions of the radius (radians) instead of degrees.

Tutoring: Thursday before and after school or by appointment. mlund@neisd.net

SCIENCE

Trust yourself. You know more than you think you do. --Benjamin Spock

Students will be finishing their Ecology projects and getting them turned in this week. We will review ecosystems along with food webs, short term and long term environmental changes, and human impact on the ocean before taking our Unit exam.

Once we take our Unit exam we will begin our STAAR Review! We will continue this for 12 days. We will review all four categories.

Tutoring is offered on Mondays and Fridays from 3:45-4:15.

U.S. History through 1877

We are Living History!

⬇️🤜💥🤛⬆️

Welcome back from break!

We started Unit 7 before break and we're going to keep chugging along. We already examined the causes of the war, so now it's on to the battles and their impacts. The Civil War has so many interesting battles, but the key ones Texas wants us to hit are Gettysburg, Vicksburg, and Antietam. Along the way, we'll also stop to smell the ether, see how the soldiers lived, and try some hard tack.

(Disclaimer: we will not actually smell ether, I was making a joke, but I will make some hard tack and provide your historian an opportunity to taste history!! Yum! Your historian, of course, does not have to try the hard tack if they do not want to :D)

Tutoring is available Mondays, 7:45-8:20 am and 3:45-4:15. Students can also tutor during lunch every day, except Wednesdays

--Deborah Meier

AV COMM: Students completed their first nine-week term focused on print media, graphic design software, and the fundamentals of fashion design, including its historical context. In the following term, they will begin with modules on oral communications and public speaking. See the above for some fabulous paper dolls our students did!

Video Game Design:  Students engaged in understanding 3D video gameplay, developed skills in block coding through creating Minecraft worlds, and began an introduction to the Unreal Engine. In the upcoming nine weeks, they will plan, design, and code their first 3D video games.

Tutoring is available Tuesday mornings and by appointment!
