8th grade is doing a PHENOMENAL job with the writing process so far!  This week students will work on an outline and immediately begin a handwritten rough draft.

MATH

"Math is the language of the universe. So the more equations you know, the more you can converse with the cosmos."

-Neil deGrasse Tyson

To prepare for the STAAR test this year, students will take a practice math STAAR test Wednesday of this week. The purpose of this test is to gain familiarity with the software and to collect data about what students have mastered and what still needs to be practiced.

Algebra: Students will take the Algebra EOC test this year. EOC stands for "end of course" and passing is a requirement for high school graduation. This will be the last math STAAR test for these students.

Geometry: The state of Texas requires all 8th graders to take a standardized math test, so these students will be re-taking the 8th Grade Math STAAR.

Tutoring: Thursday before and after school or by appointment. mlund@neisd.net

SCIENCE

Trust yourself. You know more than you think you do. --Benjamin Spock

Last week we presented our Newton's laws projects. Students created videos and animations using apps such as Snap or Scratch to demonstrate their understanding of Newton's Laws of motion.

We also completed our Force and Motion Unit. Any and all work for this unit was due by Friday and students were made aware.

This week begins our Geology unit. We will look at evidence that supports the Theory of Plate Tectonics, such as Pangea, mountain chains, earthquakes, and fossil evidence. We will also look at the three types of plate boundaries and the geologic features that form at each one.

Tutoring is offered on Mondays and Fridays from 3:45-4:15.

Week 23! Unit 5 is fast and we're more than halfway through it!

We've discussed the correlation and impacts of immigration, industrialization, and urbanization during the 1800's. The last part of this unit is reform movements; temperance, abolition, women's suffrage, the Second Great Awakening, prison and asylum reform, public education, and the labor reform movement. Your historian will spend this week learning about these topics and will take their Unit 5 Test the following week
