ELAR

"Don't raise your voice - improve your argument." - Desmond Tutu

There's so much going as we're well underway in this second semester, and while the scheduling of certain activities has changed, it's all good!  To paraphrase a Tony Robbins' quote, I remain committed to my decision but am staying flexible in my approach. 😀

We begin this week brainstorming on topics for our argumentative essay and drafting in chunks to better manage the structure when we get ready to create an outline the following week.  We spend the rest of the week searching for evidence that supports the claim of our argument while learning about properly citing.

MATH

"Math is the language of the universe. So the more equations you know, the more you can converse with the cosmos."

-Neil deGrasse Tyson

Algebra: We have spent time exploring applications of parabolas, and we learned new vocabulary for key features and how to write equations in vertex form to match the graph. Students will apply this knowledge for our Unit G assessment, which will be project based. Students may use their notes on the test.

Geometry: We are going further into learning basic trigonometric ratios, and students will explore and discover that trigonometry is based on ratios of similar triangles. We won't let the new (maybe scary) vocabulary and symbols slow us down! Quiz midweek over basic functions and simple problems.

Tutoring: Thursday before and after school or by appointment. mlund@neisd.net

SCIENCE

Last week we completed speed, velocity, and acceleration and tested over it. We also covered balanced and unbalanced forces and practiced looking at different scenarios where we had to calculate net force.

This week we will move on to Newton's three laws of motion. We will cover what each law states, look at examples of each, and perform a lab activity for each one to ensure students develop an understanding of each of the three laws.

Students will begin a project investigating Newton's three laws of motion.

Tutoring is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays, students can attend from 7:45-8:15 am.

 Rocking into week 21!

Your historian will be taking their Unit 4 test this Tuesday. Please encourage your historian to study. They have access to my slides for the unit, a review Gimkit they can play as much as they like, and can always bring their notes home to review.

We'll be starting Unit 5 this week. Unit 5 is about the Industrial Revolution and the reform movements of the early 19th century. It's a pretty straightforward unit, so it'll be another quick one.

AV Comm/Video Game Design

Greetings DATA Families!
Have a great week!

"Every choice you make defines the path you walk." -EM

AV COMM: Students will resume using Publisher as a medium to produce print media, demonstrating their grasp of fashion design principles and concepts. Through this continuous practice, they express their understanding by creating diverse print materials that exemplify the nuances of fashion design. This mirrors the way fashion designers use these principles as guidelines to craft aesthetically pleasing and well-designed garments that effectively convey their artistic vision.

Video Game Design:  Students will continue to navigate the diverse landscape of programming languages, ranging from classics like C++ to more contemporary options such as Python, students gain insights into the multifaceted impact of these languages on society. Video game programming languages have played a pivotal role in shaping education, offering innovative tools for interactive learning. Students will be showcasing their learning through software presentations.

Tutoring is available Tuesday mornings and by appointment.
