"Gaining knowledge is first step to wisdom.  Sharing it, is the first step to humanity."

- A very wise person (Unknown)

Students find themselves this week planning and writing a short informational essay over vaping awareness, using the knowledge gained in their other coursework about this topic to fuel their writing.  Students will engage in an abbreviated but efficient writing process, to complete a polished, though brief, essay.

"Mathematics is the abstract key which turns the lock of the physical universe." -John Polkinghome

Algebra: This week we will start Unit E. Students will apply their knowledge of linear equations to systems of equations, which include more than one equation. We will focus on solving by graphing.

Algebra 5th period: We are finishing up our unit on Systems of equations. Students will learn two algebraic methods after having mastered solving by graphing.

Geometry: This week we begin Unit 5 by extending knowledge of triangle congruence to explore triangle similarity and proofs.

Tutoring: Thursday before and after school or by appointment. mlund@neisd.net

SCIENCE

“Above all, don't fear difficult moments. The best comes from them.” – Rita Levi-Montalcini

This is the week before our Thanksgiving break! Hope you and your families enjoy some quality time together!

We covered atoms in the previous weeks and students are able to draw Bohr models. Students learned how to determine number of subatomic particles in atoms and how to use this to draw the atoms.    We will continue our Chemistry unit as we delve into periodic table. We will look at patterns/trends and the arrangement of elements. Students will then see how this relates to properties of elements as well as how this relates to the Bohr models they sketched. They will learn about groups and periods as well as the reactivity trends of atoms.

Tutoring is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays, students can attend from 7:45-8:15 am.

We are Living History!

📜📜📜📜📜📜📜📜📜📜📜

I'm going to start my Week 14 Newsletter entry by giving a heartfelt thank you to our 8th grade team. I was out for the whole of Week 13 battling the flu. Mr. Lovett, Mrs. Malin, Mrs. Lund, Ms. Gonzales, and Mrs. Burciaga stepped up and were the best team ever! They made sure your historian was supported while I took time to recover. Thank you for your strength this past week, it made all the difference in my ability to relax and focus on my health.

I also want to thank my historians. Thank you for trying your hardest this past week and being so flexible. It's only because you all are so awesome that our team can pull off amazing things.  I'm looking forward to seeing you all in class this week!!!

Due to my absence, we obviously didn't take our government quiz. We'll be taking it this week. We'll use Monday to get recollected after my week out and Tuesday we will review. Wednesday we'll take our government test. Thursday we'll do corrections on that quiz. I'm not going to spoil Friday, but it is the day before break! Let's have some fun together!

Again, thank you all for letting me have this week to take care of myself. I'm so grateful to be part of this fantastic DATA family. ❤️

AV Comm/Video Game Design

Greetings DATA Families!
Have a great week!

AV Comm: Students will put their photography principles into action by capturing images around campus. They'll apply the rules and aesthetics of photography through exercises involving before-and-after pictures, showcasing their development in these fundamental principles.

Video Game Design: Students will revisit their Mario Bros.-inspired game platform and identify and fix any code issues leading to pitfalls. They will thoroughly test their code and engage in playing each other's games, offering constructive feedback as part of their collaborative game development process.

Mr. Lovett's Classes

Principles of Architecture:

Architecture students have begun their extensive home design project. Last week they created bubble diagrams and began studying and sketching bedrooms. This week they will have a test over bedrooms on Tuesday. They will also begin researching and planning their bathrooms.

Digital Media 2:

November, November, November will be coming to a close VERY soon. Many students have not completed the main project; however, there is still a little time to get them turned in. This is the season for thankfulness and students are working on some gratitude projects in Illustrator that they will be emailing at the end of the week.
