ELAR

This week is focused on fixing run-on sentences and preparing for our unit test.

I made some changes in the upcoming events schedule:

Coming Oct 11th-12th: Unit Test Coming Oct. 17-18th: The Hatchet Escape Room Adventure.

Retakes will be available on selected homework assignments. Only students who need them (Anyone who got less than an 80) will see them on BrainPOP. All retakes need to be done by Friday, Oct 12th.

Homework is once per week, assigned on Mondays, and due on Fridays. Through January, it will be found on BrainPOP. Classwork not finished in class can usually be taken home to finish for homework as well.      I have classroom assignments represented on Google Classroom, even if they are not Google-based. This should be the first stop for any student who misses a day of class.

Each student should be reading a self-chosen book for at least 200 minutes per week. 45-55 of these minutes will happen in class, but the other 150+ should happen at home, hopefully spread out over the week in 20-30+ minute chunks.  All DATA 6th graders need to always have their own self-chosen book for SSR time in class twice per week, and opportunities to read when finished early.

The best way to contact me is through email but I am also on our 6th Grade Remind. rwayme@neisd.net

Tech Apps w/ Mr. G

Hi, everyone! Mr. Gonzalez here.

This week's ridiculous name for a Wifi connection is "Wu Tang LAN" (heh).

We are starting the 2nd grading period with a test over everything covered in Units 1 - 3. Students will be demonstrating their understanding of Google Chrome, Google Drawings, and taking a multiple choice test that they prepared for by completing an open note quiz last week. After this test, we will begin an in-depth look at Google Docs for Unit 4. Students will be using word processors in most of their academic career and learning to use different applications as they go through the DATA program so we will also be talking about how to understand a workspace and use resources to learn how to more effectively use different tools within an application. Please have your student log into Google Classroom and show you their work if you have questions about their grades.

Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions! - Mr. G

Exploring Multimedia

This week we'll be working with Adobe Premiere, starting with a new project folder containing all of the collected, edited images as well as the titles they created in Photoshop. They will import their assets as an entire folder to help them stay organized in the complex Premiere workspace. Students will bring in the Photoshop file with their titles as individual layers to provide them the option of later animating their text and backgrounds separately, but each of them also has a bitmap version of each title that will serve as a placeholder in the video sequence for the time being. They will build their Master sequence from their assets and carefully scale down and position each image so that the entire 1920 x 1080 video frame is still covered. A video track with a red "Warning Color" placed underneath their timeline will help them know they have done this successfully.

Tutoring appointments are available every morning before school and every day during lunch except for Thursday. Students are advised, if possible, to bring their lunch to school for those appointments to maximize time spent getting help with difficult tasks and techniques.
