ELAR

This week, we will be starting an ongoing unit on Grammar Keepers on Pear Deck through Google Classroom.

We will have a quiz on Story elements in 'Eleven' by Sandra Cisneros on Tuesday, Oct 3rd.

Coming Oct 1th-11th: Unit Test Coming Oct. 12-13th: The Hatchet Escape Room Adventure.

Retakes will be available on selected homework assignments. Only students who need them (Anyone who got less than an 80) will see them on BrainPOP.There is a 2 -week window after they are pushed out to complete them for an improved grade.

Homework is once per week, assigned on Mondays, and due on Fridays. Through January, it will be found on BrainPOP. Classwork not finished in class can usually be taken home to finish for homework as well.      I have classroom assignments represented on Google Classroom, even if they are not Google-based. This should be the first stop for any student who misses a day of class.

Each student should be reading a self-chosen book for at least 200 minutes per week. 45-55 of these minutes will happen in class, but the other 150+ should happen at home, hopefully spread out over the week in 20-30+ minute chunks.  All DATA 6th graders need to always have their own self-chosen book for SSR time in class twice per week, and opportunities to read when finished early.

The best way to contact me is through email but I am also on our 6th Grade Remind. rwayme@neisd.net

Tech Apps w/ Mr. G

Hi, everyone! Mr. Gonzalez here.

This week's ridiculous name for a Wifi connection is "No More Mr. Wifi". (heh).

Now that the grading period is ending, students are resubmitting work they want a better grade on. All extra credit assignments were submitted last week and have been graded by now. Students had a choice to use their points on any assignment this grading period or save the points for next grading period. All grades work in my class except typing grades and quizzes can be redone for up to an 80 if the original grade is 79 or lower. Please have your student log into Google Classroom and show you their work if you have questions about their grades. Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions! - Mr. G Contact: agonza33@neisd.net

Tutoring times:

Mon-Wed 7:45-8:15 AM

Mon-Wed 11:45-12:20PM with appointment

Exploring Multimedia

The overarching "master" project that we thread throughout the entire year is the Digital Portfolio, a website students create from scratch using Google Sites. Each Multimedia unit has its own page, designed to show off their products as well as inform their viewers, in writing, of the process they used to create them. Students should have a good handle on using Photoshop to make text graphics by now, so they'll make their own custom headers for each page showing off gradient backgrounds and layer styles that make each one its own work of art.

As of now their My Favorite Things page will include the four Title graphics they made for their video and a slideshow of the images they collected to animate in Adobe Premiere. If students improved any of the pictures using adjustment layers in Photoshop, they will also have some Before/After image pairs to demonstrate those changes and talk about how they did it. Once their video is complete it will be added as well!

Tutoring appointments are available every morning before school and every day during lunch except for Thursday. Students are advised, if possible, to bring their lunch to school for those appointments to maximize time spent getting help with difficult tasks and techniques.
