ELAR

We will be continuing our exploration of the how to analyze any story

Coming Oct 1th-11th: Unit Test Coming Oct. 12-13th: The Hatchet Escape Room Adventure.

Retakes are available for the Writing Process homework. Anyone who got less than an 80 o that can find the re-take in Brainpop. There is a 2 -week window to complete this for an improved grade.

This week I will be offering retakes on the Tenses Quiz for those who scored les than an 80.

Homework is once per week, assigned on Mondays, and due on Fridays. Through January, it will be found on BrainPOP. Classwork not finished in class can usually be taken home to finish for homework as well.      I have classroom assignments represented on Google Classroom, even if they are not Google-based. This should be the first stop for any student who misses a day of class.

Each student should be reading a self-chosen book for at least 200 minutes per week. 45-55 of these minutes will happen in class, but the other 150+ should happen at home, hopefully spread out over the week in 20-30+ minute chunks.  All DATA 6th graders need to always have their own self-chosen book for SSR time in class twice per week, and opportunities to read when finished early.

The best way to contact me is through email but I am also on our 6th Grade Remind. rwayme@neisd.net

MATH

6th Honors

This week we will spend reviewing for our first unit exam. Students will get a study guide in class they can work on for two class days. I will post the answers to Google Classroom students can check when they are done. They are expected to make corrections to their answers. They can then turn in the study guide to me on test day for 5 extra bonus points to the test. We will test on Wednesday and Thursday. Friday we will have a mini lesson over prime factorization and catch up the rest of the class period. We will test for 2 days. This gives students time to retest if needed on the 2nd day. It also gives students who may have been absent time to make it up.

7th HAM

This week we will finish our unit with exploring the system of equations. Students will get a a study guide on Tuesday they can work on for the next two class days. I will post the answers to Google Classroom. Students are expected to check their work and make corrections to any missed problems. Students can then turn the study guide in on test day for 5 bonus points to their test. We will test for 2 days. This gives students time to retest if needed on the 2nd day. It also gives students who may have been absent time to make it up.

World Cultures

Week Ending 9/29/2023

We are getting into our environment in our NEW unit - Human Environment Interactions. We will be examining how humans adapt to and modify the environment. We start this week with the 5 Themes of Geography to give us an understanding of how a geographer studies the physical and human parts of the world.

Tutorial times are Mondays after school from 3:40-4:30pm and Mon - Wed through homeroom PODS (7:45-8:15am).

Chicken/Garden Club Thurs. 3:40-4:30pm. Club will be cancelled on Thursdays that we have early dismissal.

Service Hours - due April 15th, 2024. 6th graders need to earn 5 hours before that time.  Students will need to log their hours in their Agendas and now can also log them into Skyward so family sees totals from home too.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or are in need of anything! You can reach me on Remind or email: bdavil@neisd.net

Tech Apps w/ Mr. G

Hi, everyone! Mr. Gonzalez here.

This week's ridiculous name for a Wifi connection is "Silence of the LAN". (heh).

After creating flyers of their own last week, students are now collaborating and combining their flyers in Google Drawings to make flyers that promote SOAR at our school. Please ask your students what SOAR is and to show you what work they have done in Google Drawings to get an idea of what they're doing in class.

After learning two more new skills this week, students will begin to prepare for the Unit 1-3 test at the end of next week. This will be the only test this grading period and will count as 1 of 3 projects that will have a big influence on students' grades.

I have having tutoring sessions on Monday - Wednesday mornings 7:45-8:15 which students can come to during homeroom and if they want to come at lunch, they must get a pass from me at least 1 day before in order to be able to come. If you have any questions about grades, please have your student sign into Google Classroom to show you their work and please go over their grades, my rubric, and my comments with them. Feel free to reach out if you have any other specific questions! - Mr. G Contact: agonza33@neisd.net

Exploring Multimedia

First priority this week is that students will need to export PNG versions of their Title screens that will work for their videos (they will be taught a better way when we get to Premiere but these make a good backup method), we'll learn how to make improvements to some of the images in their collections.

Students will be able to learn to make non-destructive edits using adjustment layers for both Levels and Vibrance, which will remove any grey "fog" an image may have if it wasn't created digitally to start with. Careful adjustment of the black and white points and the vibrance / saturation levels can really transform an "ok" photograph into a sharp-looking asset to use in their video. We'll also cover some actual "Photoshopping" using the Clone Stamp tool to remove elements we don't necessarily want in our image. The example is removing damage to a book cover that has been scanned since there were no images large enough to be found on the internet.

Tutoring appointments are available every morning before school and every day during lunch except for Thursday. Students are advised, if possible, to bring their lunch to school for those appointments to maximize time spent getting help with difficult tasks and techniques.
