ELAR

This week, we will be revising and sharing out loud our mini-essay about Hatchet, our assigned summer reading. Coming soon: The Hatchet Escape Room Adventure.

Homework is once per week, assigned on Mondays, and due on Fridays. Through January, it will be found on BrainPOP. Classwork not finished in class can usually be taken home to finish for homework as well.      I have classroom assignments represented on Google Classroom, even if they are not Google-based. This should be the first stop for any student who misses a day of class.

Each student should be reading a self-chosen book for at least 200 minutes per week. 45-50 of these minutes will happen in class, but the other 150+ should happen at home, hopefully spread out over the week in 20-30+ minute chunks.  All DATA 6th graders need to always have their own self-chosen book for SSR time in class twice per week, and opportunities to read when finished early.

The best way to contact me is through email but I am also on our 6th Grade Remind. rwayme@neisd.net

MATH

6th Honors

This week we will go over how to multiply and divide integers. Students will then expand their knowledge over The Order of Operations. We will complete the week with a CFA (quiz) over integer operations.

This week we will start Unit 2 with reviewing how to combine like terms in equations. Students will then solve equations with variables on both sides of the equal sign. We will close the week with writing equations from word  problems.

Tech Apps w/ Mr. G

Hello! This week's ridiculous name for a Wifi connection is "Keep it on the Download". (heh).

We are taking our Unit 1-2 quiz this week and going over how to use Google Drawings to take notes and make mindmaps. We will also begin talking about the Google Docs workspace this week so students can begin becoming familiar with word processing applications. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out!

Exploring Multimedia

Students will continue with Photoshop skills this week, finishing up their Title slides for their video and learning to improving images that have not already been professionally optimized. The non-destructive adjustment layers they will add allow them to return to their original file and tweak the changes they made if they decide to. This includes deepening the blacks and brightening the lighter areas in a way that makes the color and detail pop. These not only work better when incorporated into their video but make an excellent "Before and After" comparison to display on their digital portfolios.

Tutoring appointments are available every morning before school and every day during lunch except for Thursday. Students are advised, if possible, to bring their lunch to school for those appointments to maximize time spent getting help with difficult tasks and techniques.
