ELAR

This week, we will finish up our persuasive essays and share them out loud.

Students should all be started with their chosen classic novels. They all have free access to several choices of e-copies, but I can sign out physical copies to them if a student needs or prefers that format. Students are also welcome to go out and purchase their own copies of their book as long as it is the full text, not an adaptation.

I am extending the deadline on last week's Savvas homework on Parallel Structure until the end of this week. There are still a few students who did not yet complete their pre-STAAR individual e-tutorials. They should get these done and in ASAP.

I have classroom assignments represented on Google Classroom, even if they are not Google-based. This should be the first stop for any student who misses a day of class.

Each student should be reading a self-chosen book for at least 200 minutes per week. 45-55 of these minutes will happen in class, but the other 150+ should happen at home, hopefully spread out over the week in 20-30+ minute chunks.  All DATA 6th graders need to always have their own self-chosen book for SSR time in class twice per week, and opportunities to read when finished early.

The best way to contact me is through email but I am also on our 6th Grade Remind.

SCIENCE

We have begun to colonize Mars!

Our cross-curricular project-based learning (PBL) has started, and your student is investigating how in the world we could colonize Mars, should the need arise. This group project is weeks-long with checkpoints throughout to keep everyone on task and focused. Be sure to ask your student what they've discovered!

World Cultures

Week Ending 5/3/24

This week we will be learning about limited and unlimited governments. Students will read about various governments from around the world and then define, describe, and provide real world examples of each.

Service Hours - due April 15th, 2024. 6th graders need to earn 5 hours before that time.  Students will need to log their hours in their Agendas and now can also log them into Skyward so family sees totals from home too.

Tutorial times are Mondays after school from 3:40-4:30pm and Mon - Fri through homeroom PODS 7:45-8:15 am. (Except for holidays when school is out or we have early dismissal.)

Chicken/Garden Club Thurs. 3:40-4:30pm. Club will be cancelled on Thursdays that we have early dismissal.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or are in need of anything! You can reach me on Remind or email: bdavil@neisd.net

Tech Apps w/ Mr. G

Hi, everyone! Mr. Gonzalez here.

This week's ridiculous WiFi name is "For Whom the Belkin Tolls"  (heh).

Ed White will have a Career Fair on Friday May 10 and we are preparing for the Career Fair in Tech Apps by turning in signed permission slips and learning about different careers in our class. Students are taking time this week to learn about careers that align with their interests and then we'll come back to Photoshop to make collages to show potential future careers. Please ask your student about what their career interests are according to the surveys we have taken and what their ideas are for future collages about these jobs.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any other questions! - Mr. G

Exploring Multimedia

Students should have completed the basic "Paint Pot" program by now as part of their Multi-App, with all of their code accessible via a primary menu. They will now customize their backgrounds and icon with some Photoshop work and develop their About screen further with more detail and links to both their portfolio website and the DATA page on the District website.

Lessons are ready and available for any student who wishes to continue developing "Paint Pot" to include many additional features, but some have already finished the basic requirements and have commenced working on projects they have chosen for themselves, receiving guidance and debugging help from me and other students.

Tutoring passes are available for every morning before school and every day during lunch except for Thursday. Students are advised, if possible, to bring their lunch to school for those appointments to maximize time spent getting help and extra time with the more challenging tasks and techniques we cover in Multimedia.
