ELAR

This week, we will finish our persuasive essays. Students will also choose from three 100+-year-old novels to read for our last unit. Here is the link to the letter I will be sending home with student on Monday: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1tM-WldAChdM0vRUahBhnuNIW0XTbBgg_FcDe_N0UiF0/edit?usp=sharing

The new homework starts this week; it is found on Savvas Realize, with a reminder about it on Google Classroom. This week's is about parallel structure in writing, something that they will need to include in their persuasive essays. There are still a few students who did not yet complete their pre-STAAR individual e-tutorials. They should get these done and in ASAP. Missing ones are now appearing in th Skyward as 0/missing, but can be done for late credit.

I have classroom assignments represented on Google Classroom, even if they are not Google-based. This should be the first stop for any student who misses a day of class.

Each student should be reading a self-chosen book for at least 200 minutes per week. 45-55 of these minutes will happen in class, but the other 150+ should happen at home, hopefully spread out over the week in 20-30+ minute chunks.  All DATA 6th graders need to always have their own self-chosen book for SSR time in class twice per week, and opportunities to read when finished early.

The best way to contact me is through email but I am also on our 6th Grade Remind.

Tech Apps w/ Mr. G

Hi, everyone! Mr. Gonzalez here.

This week's ridiculous WiFi name is "Never Gonna Give You Wifi"  (heh).

This week, students will begin creating headers for different pages in their portfolio. Towards the end of the week, we will begin learning to colorize Black and White images! We are coming to the end of our curriculum in Tech Apps so we will begin reviewing for our final projects and final test within the next two weeks. To get an idea of what they are doing, please ask your student to show you their work and their reference documents filled with the tools we are learning to use and have documents in Google Classroom with screenshots of their work.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any other questions! - Mr. G

Exploring Multimedia

Students will be enhancing the Digital Doodle tutorial app by evolving it into Paint Pot, a more flexible drawing app that has additional features such as changing color and wiping the screen. Students will then be applying what they have learned to further enhance "Paint Pot" by having the app say the name of the color selected, adding an image for the user to paint instead of a blank canvas and a few other tweaks to make it even more user-friendly, such as confirming before wiping the drawing clean.

Once "Paint Pot" is complete it is time for students to choose what else they would like to create. Lessons are ready for any student to continue developing "Super Paint Pot" with many additional features, but they can discuss what project they would like to work on. I then guide them to tutorials that will give them the skills they need to create a game, develop a quiz, or whatever else they would like to try!

Tutoring passes are available for every morning before school and every day during lunch except for Thursday. Students are advised, if possible, to bring their lunch to school for those appointments to maximize time spent getting help and extra time with the more challenging tasks and techniques we cover in Multimedia.
