ELAR

This week, we will be finishing, sharing, and publishing to our portfolios, the memoirs we have been working on. We will also be giving our last impromptu speech, and beginning our review for the Language Arts STAAR test on April 9th.

Homework is now on Edgenuity and be tailored to each student's individual needs. Classwork not finished in class can usually be taken home to finish for homework as well.      I have classroom assignments represented on Google Classroom, even if they are not Google-based. This should be the first stop for any student who misses a day of class.

Each student should be reading a self-chosen book for at least 200 minutes per week. 45-55 of these minutes will happen in class, but the other 150+ should happen at home, hopefully spread out over the week in 20-30+ minute chunks.  All DATA 6th graders need to always have their own self-chosen book for SSR time in class twice per week, and opportunities to read when finished early.

The best way to contact me is through email but I am also on our 6th Grade Remind.

Tech Apps w/ Mr. G

Hi, everyone! Mr. Gonzalez here.

This week's ridiculous WiFi name is "Go Go Gadget Internet" (heh).

We are beginning our Photoshop unit this week by going over tools and workspaces so we can get to creating some new images. Students will be learning how to cut people out, colorize, and shade pictures in Photoshop over the next couple of weeks. Please have your student sign into Google Classroom and into Quizlet so you can see the terms we are learning over the next couple of weeks.

Exploring Multimedia

Between wrapping up our 3D Modeling projects (we'll be printing through the end of the year) and our next unit on Android Programming, we have a week in between that has a couple of days of testing, limiting limit the length of two of our class periods. That makes this the perfect time to do a short introduction to MIT App Inventor and  make sure our USB connection to the tablets is fully functional (as well as go over several troubleshooting techniques when it is not). Students will learn how to add the AI Starter program to the Windows startup routine since it's essential for that wired connection.

Aside from that this week will focus on the About page of our Digital Portfolios, with one section being a paragraph focusing on the student and another for the DATA program. We'll have to use our imagination for ways to add multimedia to this page, but several ideas for this are provided in the instructions. Once that's done students will polish the rest of their website so that it's at 100%. Ask them to show you what they've put together!

Tutoring passes are available for every morning before school and every day during lunch except for Thursday. Students are advised, if possible, to bring their lunch to school for those appointments to maximize time spent getting help and extra time with the more challenging tasks and techniques we cover in Multimedia.
