ELAR

This week, students will turn in their pretend news story and take a unit test on informational writing.

As we go from informational to persuasive/argumentative writing, if parents could encourage and facilitate their students to listen to or watch a reasonably unbiased newscast on a regular basis, it would definitely enhance their experience in this unit.

Homework is once per week, assigned on Mondays, and due on Fridays. Through January, it will be found on BrainPOP. Classwork not finished in class can usually be taken home to finish for homework as well.      I have classroom assignments represented on Google Classroom, even if they are not Google-based. This should be the first stop for any student who misses a day of class.

Each student should be reading a self-chosen book for at least 200 minutes per week. 45-55 of these minutes will happen in class, but the other 150+ should happen at home, hopefully spread out over the week in 20-30+ minute chunks.  All DATA 6th graders need to always have their own self-chosen book for SSR time in class twice per week, and opportunities to read when finished early.

The best way to contact me is through email but I am also on our 6th Grade Remind.

MATH

6th Honors

This week we will start Unit 6 by exploring the Triangle Sum Theorem and The Triangle Inequality Theorem. If we have time, we may continue a lesson on angle relationships.

This week we will start Unit 7 by exploring the circumference and area of circles and move on to the area of composite figures with circles. If we have enought ime, we may start a lesson on finding the volume of cylinders.

Until STAAR, students will have STAAR Review for HW every week. It will be 10 questions with a notes page attached for reference.

6H - Rational Number Operations STAAR Review HW

Tech Apps w/ Mr. G

Hi, everyone! Mr. Gonzalez here.  This week's ridiculous name for a Wifi connection is "Please Connect for Identity Theft" (heh).

We are having the test over units 4, 5, and 6 this week. Wednesday 1/31 students will be doing the first part of the test which is editing a Google Doc in 40 minutes; Thursday students will do the same with a Google Sheet and Friday they have a multiple choice and fill-in-the-blank test. Please ask your student to show you their study guide and the 028 Test Review Blooket that I made for them to use for studying.  Following this, we will begin learning our unit on Adobe Illustrator, my personal favorite because students will begin working on creating T-shirt designs for next year!

Please go over with your student the study guide for our test and feel free to reach out if you have any other questions! - Mr. G

Exploring Multimedia

Once students have finished painting and texturing their houses, they will take their Sketchup models into other programs to render more photorealistic images and videos of their model. This is the first year we're going to add Adobe Dimension to the list of tools that will send simulated photons from a synthetic light source to bounce off the pixels of the model and background and into a specific camera point of view. For higher quality reflections and shadows, a greater number of "samples" are sent and the values averaged, producing extremely realistic images if enough time and computing power are brought to bear. The original Sketchup textures do not contain enough data to get good results, but do allow the online design process to work smoothly over low-bandwidth connections. Once construction is complete, students have the opportunity to replace them with high resolution versions from other sources, including the Sketchup Warehouse, before rendering models with other software like Dimension and Blender.

Tutoring passes are available for every morning before school and every day during lunch except for Thursday. Students are advised, if possible, to bring their lunch to school for those appointments to maximize time spent getting help with the more challenging tasks and techniques we cover in Multimedia.
