ELAR

Hope everyone had a great break! We will be studying and reviewing our reader's theater plays. Honors classes read The Phantom Tollbooth and GT classes will be doing A Midsummer Night's Dream.  There will be a test next week.

I have been encouraging your students to talk to you about getting a Bibliotech card. It's free! They have information about it on Google Classroom. Here are some links to get you started:

Homework is once per week, assigned on Mondays, and due on Fridays. Through January, it will be found on BrainPOP. Classwork not finished in class can usually be taken home to finish for homework as well.      I have classroom assignments represented on Google Classroom, even if they are not Google-based. This should be the first stop for any student who misses a day of class.

Each student should be reading a self-chosen book for at least 200 minutes per week. 45-55 of these minutes will happen in class, but the other 150+ should happen at home, hopefully spread out over the week in 20-30+ minute chunks.  All DATA 6th graders need to always have their own self-chosen book for SSR time in class twice per week, and opportunities to read when finished early.

The best way to contact me is through email but I am also on our 6th Grade Remind.an usually be taken home to finish for homework as well.      I have classroom assignments represented on Google Classroom, even if they are not Google-based. World Cultures

Week Ending 1/5/2024

Welcome Back!!!

This week we ease back with reflection and goal setting; most cultures take account of the past year and think of ways to improve one's self. We will also begin studying cultural diffusion and individual accomplishments.

Service opportunities have been posted in DATA 6th Grade Google Classroom. Please have your student show you the various opportunities they have to possibly earn all 5 required hours before the December break:)

Tutorial times are Mondays after school from 3:40-4:30pm and Mon - Wed through homeroom PODS (7:45-8:15am).

Chicken/Garden Club Thurs. 3:40-4:30pm. Club will be cancelled on Thursdays that we have early dismissal.

Service Hours - due April 15th, 2024. 6th graders need to earn 5 hours before that time.  Students will need to log their hours in their Agendas and now can also log them into Skyward so family sees totals from home too.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or are in need of anything! You can reach me on Remind or email: bdavil@neisd.net

When we begin with new material, we will be learning to use Photoshop! Students will also be taking their first advanced typing test next week. Please have your student log into Google Classroom and show you their work. Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions! - Mr. G

Exploring Multimedia

Welcome to the new year, everyone! We'll start off by setting our house in order - polishing up last unit's vector drawings and animation, then completing the Vector Art page on our digital portfolio website.  This means not just uploading the PNG ang GIF exports of those designs but also writing about the tools and methods students employed throughout the creative process. The Core Classes page also needs some attention, with sections on the page for each of their other classes with descriptions and digital evidence of their work.

Tutoring passes are available for every morning before school and every day during lunch except for Thursday. Students are advised, if possible, to bring their lunch to school for those appointments to maximize time spent getting help and extra time with the more challenging tasks and techniques we cover in Multimedia.
