ELAR

This week's main focus is our in-class reader's theater. Honors classes will be doing The Phantom Tollbooth and GT classes will be doing A Midsummer Night's Dream. No costumes or props needed: just scripts and voices.

I have been encouraging your students to talk to you about getting a Bibliotech card. It's free! They have information about it on Google Classroom. Here are some links to get you started:

Homework is once per week, assigned on Mondays, and due on Fridays. Through January, it will be found on BrainPOP. Classwork not finished in class can usually be taken home to finish for homework as well.      I have classroom assignments represented on Google Classroom, even if they are not Google-based. This should be the first stop for any student who misses a day of class.

Each student should be reading a self-chosen book for at least 200 minutes per week. 45-55 of these minutes will happen in class, but the other 150+ should happen at home, hopefully spread out over the week in 20-30+ minute chunks.  All DATA 6th graders need to always have their own self-chosen book for SSR time in class twice per week, and opportunities to read when finished early.

The best way to contact me is through email but I am also on our 6th Grade Remind.

Tech Apps w/ Mr. G

Hi, everyone! Mr. Gonzalez here.

Last week of the semester is here! This week's ridiculous name for a Wifi connection is "Vladamir Com-Putin" (heh).

We will be making our holiday pixel art this week using Google Sheets! Students will also have until Wednesday December 13 to submit any missing work or work they want to correct. Students can correct 010, 012, 014, 015, and 017 and I'm offering 018 quiz retakes on Tuesday 12/12 and Wednesday 12/13.

When we come back from the break, students will be doing advanced typing and a bit more work with Google Sheets before we move into Photoshop. Please have your student log into Google Classroom and show you their work. Have a safe and wonderful holiday!

Exploring Multimedia

This final week of the semester is filled with keyframes as we use After Effects to spin, wiggle, shrink, change colors and so much more in order to animate of our "vectorized" vocabulary monsters. Adobe Bridge will make it much simpler for students to browse the many presets that can be applied to entire compositions and/or individual parts of drawings that our students have been working so hard on.

Keyframing is not new to them, having used the technique in Adobe Premiere to make their My Favorite Things video, but there is now a whole new world of values that can be changed over time. By the end of the week students should have used Media Encoder to generate an HD video and an animated GIF, both of which they will be adding to their Vector Art portfolio.

Tutoring passes are available for every morning before school and every day during lunch except for Thursday. Students are advised, if possible, to bring their lunch to school for those appointments to maximize time spent getting help and extra time with the more challenging tasks and techniques we cover in Multimedia.
