Please check the newsletter homepage for important information and dates!

ELAR

This week, along with our CFR (common formative assessment), we will be continuing to work on our memoirs, with writing lessons interspersed.

We will also be starting  a play as an in-class reader's theater. Honors classes will be doing The Phantom Tollbooth and GT classes will be doing A Midsummer Night's Dream.

I have been encouraging your students to talk to you about getting a Bibliotech card. It's free! They have information about it on Google Classroom. Here are some links to get you started:

Homework is once per week, assigned on Mondays, and due on Fridays. Through January, it will be found on BrainPOP. Classwork not finished in class can usually be taken home to finish for homework as well.      I have classroom assignments represented on Google Classroom, even if they are not Google-based. This should be the first stop for any student who misses a day of class.

Each student should be reading a self-chosen book for at least 200 minutes per week. 45-55 of these minutes will happen in class, but the other 150+ should happen at home, hopefully spread out over the week in 20-30+ minute chunks.  All DATA 6th graders need to always have their own self-chosen book for SSR time in class twice per week, and opportunities to read when finished early.

The best way to contact me is through email but I am also on our 6th Grade Remind.

MATH

6th Honors

This week we will explore the last lesson of our unit. Students will determine the relationship between the input and output of tables, graphs, and verbal descriptions. Students will then have a CFA on Thursday. On Friday, students who need to retake the CFA or make up the CFA can do so in class.

**All missing and late work is due Friday - December 8th. **

7th HAM

This week  we will explore the Pythagorean Theorem and its Converse. Students will then determine how to find the distance between two points on a coordinate grid using their knowledge of the Pythagorean Theorem.

**All missing and late work is due Friday - December 8th. **

Week Ending 12/08/2023

This week we will be continuing our exploration of the world's belief systems and holidays that are celebrated.

Reminders:

Service opportunities have been posted in DATA 6th Grade Google Classroom. Please have your student show you the various opportunities they have to possibly earn all 5 required hours before the December break:)

Tutorial times are Mondays after school from 3:40-4:30pm and Mon - Wed through homeroom PODS (7:45-8:15am).

Chicken/Garden Club Thurs. 3:40-4:30pm. Club will be cancelled on Thursdays that we have early dismissal.

Service Hours - due April 15th, 2024. 6th graders need to earn 5 hours before that time.  Students will need to log their hours in their Agendas and now can also log them into Skyward so family sees totals from home too.

Tech Apps w/ Mr. G

Hi, everyone! Mr. Gonzalez here.

This week's ridiculous name for a Wifi connection is "Vladamir Com-Putin" (heh).

This week, students will be planning an international trip using Google Sheets to come up with a budget and plan for their trip. Students will also be working on an extra credit assignment creating pixel art! We will be learning how to use conditional formatting in Google Sheets to create pixel art. Please have your student log into Google Classroom and show you their work. They're making amazing things! - Mr. G

Exploring Multimedia

Our cross-curricular project with ELAR continues as students master more and more Illustrator tools for converting the paper sketch of their vocabulary "monster" into a digital vector drawing. Applying effects such as Roughen, Feather, Inner and Outer Glow can quickly bring a flat-looking 2D drawing to life. Combining gradient colors on both Strokes and Fills to complement these effects will result in truly unique characters ready to animate in Adobe After Effects. The more care they give to Layer separation, the more options they will have during that final step.

Tutoring passes are available for every morning before school and every day during lunch except for Thursday. Students are advised, if possible, to bring their lunch to school for those appointments to maximize time spent getting help and extra time with the more challenging tasks and techniques we cover in Multimedia.
