ELAR

We will be continuing to read biographies for SSR once each week through the end of November, and students are encouraged to read their chosen biographies on their own. Each DATA 6th grader will be expected to have a biography, autobiography, or memoir of their choice available and in progress. On November 30th, students will dress up as the real person from their book and introduce themselves in character. More details soon.

Retakes are available for the Run-On Sentences and Subject-Verb Agreement homework on BrainPOP, and I will be offering a retake Friday for  the Grammar Keepers Quiz to those who made less than an 80 on the original. Those students should be reviewing the first batch of Grammar keepers on our Pear Deck slides (up to who and whom).

Homework is once per week, assigned on Mondays, and due on Fridays. Through January, it will be found on BrainPOP. Classwork not finished in class can usually be taken home to finish for homework as well.      I have classroom assignments represented on Google Classroom, even if they are not Google-based. This should be the first stop for any student who misses a day of class.

Each student should be reading a self-chosen book for at least 200 minutes per week. 45-55 of these minutes will happen in class, but the other 150+ should happen at home, hopefully spread out over the week in 20-30+ minute chunks.  All DATA 6th graders need to always have their own self-chosen book for SSR time in class twice per week, and opportunities to read when finished early.

The best way to contact me is through email but I am also on our 6th Grade Remind. rwayme@neisd.net

Tech Apps w/ Mr. G

Hi, everyone! Mr. Gonzalez here.

This week's ridiculous name for a Wifi connection is "Nacho Wifi". (heh). After learning about Graphic Design principles and elements of art, students are beginning to use Google Docs to create newsletters about one of their favorite topics.

Students will use Google Drawings to create a header image for their newsletter and answer research questions about their topic before putting the information and images into a newsletter of their own!  Please ask your student to log into Google Drive and show you what they have been working on. Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions!

Tutoring times:

Exploring Multimedia

Wrapping up our first major project of the year is always a hectic time, as students who are trying to meet the final deadlines nail down the bare essentials and the students who finished early look for ways of taking their videos to the next level. All students must have a video to share, meaning uploading their final version to Google Drive and adding it to their Digital Portfolio. The My Favorite Things page that must not only show this video but also include descriptions of the process, the software they used, the roadblocks they overcame and what part of it they found fun and interesting.

Tutoring appointments are available every morning before school and every day during lunch except for Thursday. Students are advised, if possible, to bring their lunch to school for those appointments to maximize time spent getting help with difficult tasks and techniques.
