ELAR

Tuesday and Wednesday,  Oct. 17-18th, we will do the Hatchet Escape Room Adventure.

Homework is once per week, assigned on Mondays, and due on Fridays. Through January, it will be found on BrainPOP. Classwork not finished in class can usually be taken home to finish for homework as well.      I have classroom assignments represented on Google Classroom, even if they are not Google-based. This should be the first stop for any student who misses a day of class.

Each student should be reading a self-chosen book for at least 200 minutes per week. 45-55 of these minutes will happen in class, but the other 150+ should happen at home, hopefully spread out over the week in 20-30+ minute chunks.  All DATA 6th graders need to always have their own self-chosen book for SSR time in class twice per week, and opportunities to read when finished early.

The best way to contact me is through email but I am also on our 6th Grade Remind. rwayme@neisd.net

Tech Apps w/ Mr. G

Hi, everyone! Mr. Gonzalez here.

This week's ridiculous name for a Wifi connection is "Wu Tang LAN" (heh).

We are starting the 2nd grading period with a test over everything covered in Units 1 - 3. Students will be demonstrating their understanding of Google Chrome, Google Drawings, and taking a multiple choice test that they prepared for by completing an open note quiz last week. After this test, we will begin an in-depth look at Google Docs for Unit 4. Students will be using word processors in most of their academic career and learning to use different applications as they go through the DATA program so we will also be talking about how to understand a workspace and use resources to learn how to more effectively use different tools within an application. Please have your student log into Google Classroom and show you their work if you have questions about their grades.

Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions! - Mr. G

Exploring Multimedia

Everything we've done so far could be replicated fairly easily with software like PowerPoint or online tools such as Google Slides. Now we get to the real reason that makes Adobe Premiere the top choice of video professionals the world over - control. We begin with the basic underlying concept for all animation: Keyframes. We will instruct Premiere in exactly how to change the scale and position of our images during the 5 seconds each one is on screen, and in doing so tell a mini story about each particular "favorite thing". We'll learn how to add Transitions that will automate the changing of one image to the next. We will even re-construct our Titles using their original Photoshop layers so that they can in turn be animated with keyframes and transitions.  We have an incredibly talented group of students this year and I can't wait for you to see what they've been cooking up!

Tutoring appointments are available every morning before school and every day during lunch except for Thursday. Students are advised, if possible, to bring their lunch to school for those appointments to maximize time spent getting help with difficult tasks and techniques.
