Strengths as an immigrant

Monica explained that she's "better at adapting because she's an immigrant." Because she's an immigrant, she has the "capacity to have two languages" and is "multicultural." Monica has the ability to "see with different lenses all the different immigrants that are here" in her classroom and life. She has a better understanding of other immigrants and can "see what other people can't see because they have never lived in another country." After describing each strength Monica proudly said, "I have that." Monica says that the strengths she has as an immigrant are "valuable as a teacher" because she can support and understand her students that aren't from here.

Feelings

Monica has "no regrets" about moving to the US and loves her life here.

Family

The Carillos have a big family. Their relatives are coming in December to celebrate the holidays together! This is a picture from the Carillos summer trip to Mexico.

Boston University Experience

Monica recently studied at Boston University to earn her MEd Masters in education and leadership. She reflects that it was "a great opportunity to be able to experience school in the USA." She learned "how different the experience was, and how assimilating to the culture helps you be successful."
