Monica immigrated to the US with just her husband, Miguel for his job. She was pregnant with her daughter Miranda at the time she moved. Their first home in the US was a house they rented in Auburndale, one of the thirteen villages within the city of Newton in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States.

In 2007 they moved back to Boston, this time in Charlestown because of Miguel's job.

They moved to Newton in 2011 where they lived for 2 1/2 years before moving to Needham, where they live now.

Monica and her family have been living in Needham since June 2013, almost 10 years. Both of her daughters, Miranda (17) and Milena (15) went to Hillside, High Rock, Pollard, and now Needham High School, where she teaches Spanish.
