Early Life: 

Steve Wong grew up in Kwangtung (now known as Guangdong). Although he was born and raised in China, this photo shows a more "American" image. The photograph was taken to send to the American Embassy. Yee explains that he was "appealing to American standards through the use of Western garments" in order to sway U.S. immigration officers.
