Early Life

Albert was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1933. At 6 months old, Albert was diagnosed with Polio ("an infectious disease caused by a virus that can spread from person to person and cause paralysis" -CDC). He spent the next two years of his life in and out of hospitals struggling to survive. He had an older brother and younger sister making him the middle child. Albert didn't have a typical upbringing, he was very interested in school and studying things like history and reading books. When traveling by train one day, he met his future wife. They had dated for roughly four years before finally getting married. They had saved up money for years to travel the world together for four months on a honeymoon. They traveled all of Europe and even went to Egypt.

He attended the School of Engineering at the National University of Buenos Aires. Later, he worked at the country's mapping agency where he developed expertise in a particular mathematical process, thanks to which he was sent with a colleague and friend to the U.S. Army Map Service, Washington D.C. on a very useful and enjoyable three-year mission. When that mission was over, he and his family returned to Argentina for 3 more years.
