Reflection: Which of the Big 8 do you feel you will excel at (or which do you feel most prepared for) and why? Which Big 8 engagement strategy would you like additional support or coaching to implement/refine? Email your response to your mentor.
Print off the Big 8 Terms and post it somewhere in your classroom. Share with your mentor what your plan is for considering the Big 8 engagement strategies in your lesson planning.
Use Big 8 Transfer Tasks to complete the following and share it with your mentor upon completion.
Make a list of expectations related to the following: Raised hands vs blurt outs, Noise level during seat work, Listening during instruction, Transitions and Attention Signals
Think about positive behavioral cues you can use to reinforce student adherence to your list of expectations above. Create at least five cueing statements that you plan to use.
Decide upon an attention signal (or two) that you plan to use in your classroom.
Watch videos related to the Big 8 strategies (see "Essential Basics Videos"). Make note of which specific strategies you'd like to implement during your first days of school.
