Universal Design for Learning
Universal Design for Learning
What is UDL?
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is an educational framework that aims to make learning accessible to all students by providing multiple means of representation, engagement, and expression.
In practice, UDL encourages teachers to offer diverse ways of presenting information, allowing students various means of engagement with the material, and enabling multiple options for students to express what they've learned. This approach acknowledges that students have different learning styles, abilities, and backgrounds, and aims to remove barriers by providing flexibility in how content is accessed and assessed. By implementing UDL principles, educators create more inclusive and supportive learning environments that cater to the diverse needs of all students.
The "universal" concept means teachers can design lessons with enough flexibility to work for all learners that remain focused on the same firm goals.
