Creating a worthwhile prompt for students to use AI is essential. It will take some practice to learn how to interact with AI and get the results you want. Here are a few pro tips to include in your prompting. (Note: Click the 'More Options' pulldown menu if available to see an area to add more detail to your prompts.)
AI can do a lot, here is one example of a prompt to create a space in SchoolAI. Be specific with what you want the AI to do. For example, don't just say "add fractions." Instead, your prompt might look like this.
(Table) This is using the Topic Explorer space:
Topic: Adding Fractions for 5th graders, Standard 5.NF.1.
More Options-->Class Description: Adding Fractions for 5th graders, Standard 5.NF.1. Start with an example. Start with adding like denominators. Work through two or three examples with the student. Then, move on to adding unlike denominators. All denominators must be one of the following numbers: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, or 10. Numerators can range from 1 to 20. Keep the language appropriate for 5th-grade students. Some students struggle with reading and may need to adjust the reading level to a 3rd-grade student.
"Students need to stay on topic" or "Keep students on topic. Do not let them move to other topics."
"Continue even if students don't want to practice"
Specify the grade level and include if you have students that are low readers or if you have a ML/ESL/ELL student.
ALWAYS use the Preview. Click "Start Preview" and test out how the AI acts to your responses. Make sure it is doing what you want. If it's not, then rephrase your prompt or add more detail to the prompt.
