For Peter Senge, in a Learning organization, all the characteristics should be visible because everyone is sharing in the vision and responsibility of making learning happen. Similarly, in a learning organization, even if people have degrees, school leaders engage teachers, learners and community members in a continuous process of learning together and improving the school to better support all children learning. As the futurist Alvin Toffler said, people “learn, unlearn and relearn”. Everyone from the school head to the supervisors, teachers, staff and students learns from each other and with each other.
Each member of the Learning Organization has some idea to present. It is not one person or the person at the top who is answering all the problems or telling others to just implement what he or she knows. The school leader recognizes each one’s ability to contribute and exercise some form of leadership. This leadership style is called distributed leadership and it is different from centralized leadership where only those in authority make decisions.
Let us take a look at how distributed is being applied in this video.
