The NDV Filipino American Families have partnered with Manila Town Heritage Foundation, to learn about Filipino culture and heritage through history, music and dance. Focused on pre-colonial Philippine traditions, the students are proud to showcase in this year’s performance, an indigenous dance, Kapamalong Malong; accompanied by live Kulintang drum and gong ensemble, inspired from the Maranao and Sulu Tribes of southern Mindanao islands.
Participants: Rowan Becker (K), Orion Sese (K), Alexandra Sese (1st), Noella Leon (1st), Davia Prugh (3rd), Janea Prugh (3rd), Coco Brown (4th), Declan Cuaderno (4th), Harry Ouano-Dodd (4th), Riley Becker (5th), Ollie Cordero (5th), Elise Cordero (6th), Tessa Matsuhara (6th), Tegan Sellers (6th)
IRISH DANCING
Traditional Irish dancers have two types of shoes: hard shoes and soft shoes. We will see performances of both—a soft shoe reel to "Ellery Klein and Ryan Lacey's Reels 133" from Step into the Beat: Modern Irish Dance Music and a classic hard shoe dance called the "St. Patrick's Day" by Kathleen and Dom Lavin.
You will find that whatever Irish dancers do on their right feet they will follow up on their left. Irish dancing is typically fast paced, lively, and clapping along to the beat during a performance is encouraged.
Participants (soft shoe): Zofia Adams (TK), Aoife Neligan (1st)
Participants (hard shoe): Rachel Keenan (7th), Ms. Collins (1st Grade Aide) and Mrs. Sweeney (Assistant Principal)
