Below are the frequently asked questions during the labs, please let me know if you feel something that would be helpful for labs and I will list it down here. Please help to grow this page for future students.
- Cannot launch the Moldesim-Altera software ....
The path of the modelsim-altera software is set properly. To modify the path select: Tools > Options > EDA Tool Options. The following dialog box opens. Under the modelsim-altera section add the following path to the modelsim software
<path to quartus installation>\modelsim_ase\win32aloem
Sometimes you will see a NativeLink error like below. This occurs when you are trying to open the simulation tool more than once. Please close the previous Modelsim tool before you click Tools > Run Simulation Tool > RTL Simulation

The most common case for this scenario for this to happen is Programming Mode switch on FPGA is set to PROG. If this setting is set to RUN at all times

To change the top entity of the project if you have more than 1 file in project, change the view to Files in the Project Navigator in Quratus tool. It is set to Hierarchy by default
Right click on the file you want to make it as top entity. Select set as Top-Level Entity or press Ctrl + Shift + V on keyboard

You can import the waves.do file by importing it in ModelSim-Altera by File > Load > Macro File option in the menu.
