Description

Illegal mining and the exploitation of minerals are prevalent issues throughout Africa, and have been for several decades. The miners who are often at the bottom of the sociopolitical chain are faced with many hazards. In addition to this, illegal mining causes severe environmental degradation, toxic runoff, and billions lost in revenue. Delegates will represent leading figures in the deliberation of mining and the exploitation of minerals in Africa and are asked to focus on the plethora of issues that arise with mining.
