In recent years, cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum have gained popularity in developing countries as alternatives to unstable national currencies. For some, crypto offers hope for financial inclusion and protection against inflation, and for others, it raises serious concerns about economic volatility, tax evasion, fraud and even more. Few examples are imposing restrictions on crypto use, like Nigeria, while other countries like El Salvador have adopted Bitcoin as a legal form of currency. The world is still split about whether cryptocurrencies represent a path toward financial acceptance or are more of a threat to economic stability. This committee must evaluate how the UN and global financial institutions can support developing nations in managing risks.

In this committee, we will address the tension between for and against country/group interests, analyze the pros/cons, limitations, and past efforts made to prohibit the use of these biological weapons. We will highlight the effects of the 1975 Biological Weapons Convention and other treaties, and look at how a lack of funding, adequate infrastructure, and technology prevents targeted countries from being able to appropriately react.
