My freshmen year, I wanted to conduct research with corals and marine biology in partnership with the UPenn Biology Department, but was turned away because of my age. However, I was still able to work with another species that also lives under the water. Here, I tested the effects of different pHs on California Blackworms, a common species used in marine life studies, and discussed how the water pHs can be altered by surrounding environmental issues.
During my Sophomore year, science research was integrated into my curriculum. While it may have been a part of my class grade, I still conducted the research independently. This project was testing just how effective ambu bags, used in everyday EMS and hospital services, are.
This year, I was finally at the right age to work in partnership with UPenn, but this time with the Epigenetics Department. I was put into contact with them after my volunteer work for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and began research there with a professor who studies blood cancers and cells.
Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, I was unable to conduct the research because it was impossible for me to do remotely. I do not have enough substantial research to share at this time.
