We are so excited for your cohort to gather for the first time in June! We will use this site to communicate information about the logistics for our immersion weekend in New Orleans. Please feel welcome to email me at cgortner@nd.edu or call/text me at (217) 390-3367 if you have questions leading up to or throughout the weekend.
OFFICIAL PROGRAM
You can find the official program linked here. In it, you will find a detailed agenda, as well as biographies for each speaker and participant. You will also receive a printed copy upon arrival.
TO DO BEFORE THE SUMMIT:
1. Complete Pre-Summit Readings
The pre-summit readings will give you a better sense of context for many of the discussions we will have in New Orleans.
2. Join our "Remind" Group
In order to make communication for next weekend easy and efficient, I ask that you all join the RLS New Orleans Remind group. I will be using the group to send updates and reminders to the whole group. You do not need to download the app or make an account to join. Text @rls17nola to 81010, then download the Remind app and enable notifications.
LOGISTICS
1. Travel
En Route to the Summit:
For those of you flying into New Orleans: We will arrange for a member of our team to pick you up from the airport when you arrive and drop you off at the airport. That person will be in touch to arrange pick-up times and locations on the morning of your arrival. If you have not done so yet, please share your flight itinerary with me so we can arrange these rides.
For those of you who will be driving to New Orleans: You should plan to arrive at Francis Family Hall on the campus of Loyola New Orleans by 2:30 PM to check into your room so that you can arrive at our first session by 4 PM. If you are staying off-site, please arrive at Monroe Hall, Room 152 prior to 4 pm. We will share information about the mileage reimbursement process when you arrive. There is parking available outside of Francis Family Hall.
During the Summit:
1. Event Space
All sessions and breakouts will be held on the campus of Loyola University New Orleans. Our team members will take care of transportation to and from both off-campus dinners. If you would like to stay out and explore New Orleans after dinner on either Friday or Saturday night, you will be responsible for making your way back to Loyola New Orleans. We will provide more details about this when you arrive.
2. Accommodations
We will provide lodging in a Loyola University New Orleans student dorm. You will have your own bedroom, and you will share a small living space and bathroom with a roommate. The accommodations are quite basic; with a long-twin dorm bed and other simple amenities you might expect in a college dormitory. In the past, the vast majority of RLS participants have chosen to stay at Loyola New Orleans. However, you are welcome to secure off-site lodging if you wish. If you choose this option, you will be responsible for paying for and arranging your own lodging and transportation between your lodging and Loyola New Orleans. Please let me know if you plan on staying off-site.
3. Meals
All meals will be provided, either on campus at Loyola University or in New Orleans. Please let me know if there are any updates to your dietary restrictions/preferences since filling out the RLS 17 Data Collection form.
4. Attire
The attire for the weekend is casual. You can expect highs in the 90s and lows in the 70s with a great deal of humidity.
