30 Proven Strategies to Serve the Latino Community and Increase Enrollment in Catholic Schools

We hope that this user-friendly guide, which is a compilation of tangible ideas and concrete strategies compiled from Catholic school principals who have been successful in this endeavor, provides some helpful suggestions as you work to more fully engage Latino families in your Catholic schools.

Attracting Latino Families to Your Catholic Schools

The Madrinas Model employs a grassroots marketing approach in which madrinas connect Latino families to a strong neighborhood Catholic school. By spreading the good news of Catholic education and its impact on the educational and personal successes of Latino children in America, madrinas become ambassadors who can create a positive ripple effect for the school within the Latino community.

With their message and materials prepared, madrinas identify and reach out to Latino families, educating them on the advantages of Catholic schools, inviting them to visit the parish school, serving as tour guides on open-house days, explaining the process of applying, and helping prospective families with the application. This supplement is an excerpt from the full Madrinas Model guidebook above, translated into Spanish, and intended for madrinas themselves.

Our Historic Opportunity to Empower Latino Families through Catholic Schools: Strategy and Perspectives from Bishops and Pastors

This document focuses specifically on the integral role that bishops and pastors play in extending the Catholic school advantage to Latino families.

Latino Families, Catholic Schools, and Educational Opportunity

In 2009, the University of Notre Dame published, To Nurture the Soul of a Nation, which presents the findings of a yearlong national Task Force on the Participation of Latino Children and Families in Catholic Schools. This report serves as the foundation of our work in the The Catholic School Advantage Campaign. It is available for download in both Spanish and English.
