1.How do I find a book?
Use our online catalog OPALS. You can find a link to it on NCSU Student Links Page. If you need help using the catalog, you can ask me or take a look at the video tutorial.
2. How do I check out a book?
All you need to do is bring the book to me at the circulation desk and tell me your full name.
3. How long can I keep the book?
Standard loan time frame is 3 weeks. If you are not finished with it by the end of 3 weeks, you can renew it as long as no one else has place it on reserve. To renew you can bring the book to me in the library or you can email me at kristen.mcallister@ncsuvt.org and request a renewal.
4.How many books can I check out at once?
If your account is in good-standing--you do not have overdue or lost materials--you may check out up to five books.
5. Are there fines for late books?
No, but we ask that you try to return your books on time as there is often waiting lists, other students who want to read the book! You will receive an email reminder two days before the due date or when the material is overdue.
6. What happens if I lose or damage a book, resource, or piece of equipment?
Please come see me as soon as you are able and explain the situation. Accidents do happen, but I need to know so I can repair or replace the resource. If you are able, it is helpful if you can pay for a replacement. If it was not an accident or this has happened before, you will be asked to pay for a replacement.
7. What if the library does not have the book that I want to read?
Ask us! Often we can borrow it from another library. If you are searching for a book on OPALS, you can even see if other libraries in our district have the material available.
You can also fill out the Google Form to recommend a material for purchase.
8. What if the book I want to read is already checked out?
Let me know which book you want, and I can place it on hold for you. I will contact you when the book is returned and you will be able to check it out.
9. Does the library have audio books or ebooks?
We have some on Sora, an online ebook and audio book service. Click on the link found on the Online Catalog, Ebooks and Audio books page. You can also find a link to Sora on the Student Links page.
10. What other materials can I check out from the library?
We have computer mice, powerbanks, and headphones that can be checked out for educational use. The loan period for these items is one day.
11. How do I return a book?
There is a labeled slot at the circulation desk. There are also blue return bins placed throughout the library for any materials you may have used but did not check out. Please do not reshelve books yourself--that is my job, and I need to do it myself so that I can maintain accurate circulation records.
