Many colleges use Common App, such as NC State and Chapel Hill. You can create a student account at commonapp.org and begin your applications!
Common App allows you to select the colleges you plan to apply to and you can see your progress in the "Dashboard" tab to ensure you are aware of what is incomplete.
It also has a help section on the right side, as you can see in the image, to help you navigate the application process with ease.
The "My Colleges" tab allows you to view deadline information, contact information for admissions, and different requirements that the college has for its applicants. Make sure to review all of this information so that you can ensure you submit a complete application with all the required material.
The boxes to the left will check off as you complete each step.
The "Common App" tab will consist of all your personal and educational information. As you complete a tab, the boxes on the left will check off to let you know that all required information has been filled out.
Even though you will send in your transcript, you will still need to fill out information about your GPA, class rank, class schedule, etc.
Remember to include TRIO Talent Search in the list of your extra-curricular activities!
If you need any help navigating this site, make sure to check out the tutorial on the right of that page!
In order to waive your application fees via common app, you will need to select "Yes" when asked if you qualify for an application fee waiver.
Afterwards, make sure you check off the highlighted box stating that you are enrolled in TRIO along with anything else that pertains to your situation.
You may need to follow-up with your school counselor to ensure they verify your information on their end in order for the waiver to be applied.
Remember to notify your teachers and counselors about recommendation letters at least 2 weeks in advance. Not all colleges require them so make sure to check with each school that is on your list.
You do not get extensions for application deadlines, so make sure you know when each application is due!
TRIO is here to help you in this process, so please do not hesitate to reach out to your TRIO Coordinator to get one-on-one help with the application process!
