The InfuseCS project is investigating how problem‐based learning and computational thinking can be integrated with maker‐based digital storytelling to create effective and engaging learning experiences in upper elementary physical science. The project centers on the design, development, iterative refinement, and investigation of an innovative narrative‐centered learning environment that supports computationally-rich science learning for upper elementary students. InfuseCS enables students to collaboratively investigate physical science problems through the creation of interactive science narratives featuring disciplinary core ideas in physical science, while engaging students in computational thinking practices and supporting them as critical thinkers and creative problem solvers
The InfuseCS project has three major thrusts:
Design and iteratively refine the InfuseCS narrative-centered learning environment to create computationally-rich science learning experiences for upper elementary students.
Conduct professional development sessions with upper elementary school teachers to provide support for integrating computationally-rich science learning into their classrooms.
Provide a social and cognitive account of how upper elementary students engage in computationally-rich science learning with a narrative-centered learning environment.
