Mentoring
I have been given the opportunity to mentor several undergraduate students during my research. The students came from various backgrounds ranging from polymer and color chemistry to chemical engineering. During my time with them, I taught them essential lab skills to help with my research project and guided them through the research process. This has led to undergraduate students having the confidence to contribute ideas to my research, yielding promising results and ultimately becoming co-authors in my publications. Additionally, I participated in the Mentoring Incubator-Mentorship Experience for Future Faculty (MI-MEFF) as part of the Teaching and Communication Certificate.
More information regarding mentoring and teaching abilities can be found in my teaching statement.

During my time with the MI-MEFF program, I guided an undergraduate student on a student-led project regarding the development and optimization of optical nanosensors. I met with the student daily to track research progress and provided feedback on writing assignments and presentations frequently. Additionally, I had to opportunity to collaborate with other mentors to develop a professional development and research skills workshop series for the students. Furthermore, I co-developed and co-facilitated one of the workshop sessions on learning how to convey scientific information to public audiences.
Student Feedback
"I truly value everything that I have learned from my time doing research with you, and I did have a lot of fun getting research experience for the first time. You have been a fantastic research mentor and I deeply admire your ambition and passion for your research. I cherish my experience and I appreciate your kindness and patience as I learned to navigate a lab for the first time." - Sydney Lucas, Polymer and Color Chemistry Undergraduate Student
"I want to thank you for everything you've done for me and especially the hours you've spent to get me familiarized with the process in the lab. I've truly learned a tremendous amount....This research experience has been incredible for me, and I hope in the future I'll have the opportunity to work with you and the rest of the lab group again." - Joey Zhao, Textile Engineering Undergraduate Student
"I am very satisfied with my mentor. She and I were and are a great team. Specifically in terms of the research content, she provided a lot of information and resources regarding the project I was to be working on. She was readily available and I was able to get on board with understanding the project an even getting walkthroughs of in-lab experiments and equipment training & demonstrations by the first week. When it came to feedback, I was able to get detailed and multiple rounds of feedback as well have have additional questions and inperson discussions with her on any lasting thoughts. Overall, I have a great mentoring-mentee relationship with Hannah and I am currently continuing to work with her on a research-technical elective this semester and again next semester." - Sofia Abello, Chemical Engineering Undergraduate Student from MI-MEFF program
