A short individual presentation on a small biotechnology company founded in North Carolina. I chose Pairwise Plants, a company that uses CRISPR to edit food plants to have traits more desirable for customers. Their main product is a salad mix containing CRISPR-edited mustard greens that have been modified to have the pungent smell and taste removed while maintaining its high nutrient content compared to regular lettuce.
A group poster on an industry project done by a group of second-years the semester prior on Cosmic Eats, a regenerative food system that would allow the production of food in areas where it may not otherwise be accessible. The focus was on disaster relief and providing the system to areas where means of food production were damaged or destroyed.
An individual short paper that explored a United States patent, filed for the method of growing plant biomass for the production of various chemicals or compounds. This included potential applications of the technology as outlined in the patent, as well as its advantages over existing technologies that serve the same/similar purpose.
