ENROLLMENT ERRORS FOR COURSES OUTSIDE OF CHE

If you have problems getting into a class for which you have met prerequisites and restrictions, please contact the program offering that class, using the information below. The CBE Advisor CANNOT add you to courses taught in another discipline.

Tip: Include your name, student ID, and preferred section(s) -- lecture, lab, and problem session, as appropriate - in your communications, where applicable.

COMMON ERROR MESSAGES

Available seats are reserved:
- Some classes/departments reserve seats for students in particular majors, minors or colleges.
- If you’re trying to add a non-CHE class and you receive this error message, you will need to try to find a different section of the course or a different course all together.
- Sometimes departments will release reserved seats before classes begin, so it’s possible you can add the course later, but you should go ahead and find an alternate section or course that is available.
Class is full:
- The section of the course you are trying to add is full; you should look for an alternate section of the course or a different course that is available.
- Tip: Check the “Waitlist OK” button when trying to enroll. Even if a class is full, it may be available for a waitlist. Not all classes offer a waitlist option, but if you click this button it will add you to the waitlist if one is available.
Requisite not met:
- The course you are trying to add has stated prerequisites or corequisites that you have not met. Click on the course in the Enrollment Wizard to view the prerequisites/corequisites.
- Example: CH 101 (lecture) and CH 102 (lab) are corequisites (they must be taken together). You must have open sections of both courses in your Shopping Cart at the same time before you hit “Enroll” or you will get this error message.
  - You also must have taken and passed the Chemistry Placement Exam to enroll in CH 101/102.
- Example: MA 141 requires a student to place into the course using the Math Placement Exam or successful completion of MA 111 or MA 108. If you try to enroll in MA 141 but only placed into MA 108 (or didn’t take the placement exam) you will get this error message.
- If you have completed the stated prerequisites as Dual Enrollment and/or AP/IB, those credits must be in the NC State system before you will be allowed to register for the next level course. If you are still waiting for those credits to arrive, you will likely need to wait to register for the higher level class.

Other

Health and Exercise Studies (HES*): If you are GRADUATING or there is an extenuating circumstance that requires you to take a HES course, and you cannot enroll yourself, please email Dr. Renee Harrington, rnharrin@nscu.edu.

If you would like to take a HES class, and all classes are full, you can attend the first day and see if the instructor is able to add you to the class.
Note that some classes that utilize equipment are LESS likely to be able to add students in this way. Classes like HESF 101, HESF 102, HESF 105 and HESF 113 are some of the best choices if students are hoping to score an extra seat.
You can also consider a summer class, as there are some distance options open to on campus students.
Reserved seats that have a credit-hour restriction will likely not be lifted.

Psychology (PSY): The department reserves a large number of seats in most classes for Psychology majors and minors. Many reserved seats will eventually be released after all students have had a chance to enroll. Students should please not reach out to instructors or the Psychology advising office to request enrollment in classes with seat reservations if the available (non-reserved) seats are gone. Instructors and advisors have no say in who gets into a class and cannot override seat reservations. Students should enroll in the sections/classes with available (non-reserved) seats instead or join the waitlist when available.

World Languages and Culture (Formerly Foreign Languages and Literature FL*): Students whose native language is not English, and who still possess native proficiency in all four language skills (reading/writing/speaking/listening) of that language qualify for a Native Language Proficiency Waiver and should submit the FL Native Fluency Waiver Form for Dr. Despain to review. He will especially want to know how you obtained and have maintained your native fluency in reading and writing in your native language. He'll then review your information and go from there.
