Celebrate World Down Syndrome Day by Rocking your Socks!
Every year on March 21, people around the world pause to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day by wearing bright, bold, and wonderfully silly socks. The date, 3 21, represents the three copies of the twenty first chromosome that make Down syndrome unique, and socks were chosen because chromosomes are shaped like mismatched pairs.
SOCK SALE DATES: Tuesday, March 10th and Wednesday, March 11th
Primary School: Socks will be on sale in the atrium of each floor during lunch.
Intermediate School: Socks will be on sale during each lunch period.
3rd grade sales will happen near the fish tank
4th/5th will be in the 2nd floor atrium.
A pair of socks will cost $2. The socks are provided by the Down Syndrome Association of Delaware. Students can either buy a pair of socks on the dates listed or wear a pair from home on March 20th. If you choose to purchase a pair of socks, please place your child's money (exact change if possible) in a sealed envelope with their name and SOCKS printed on the envelope.
On Friday, March 20th, students can wear their socks and Inclusion t-shirt or a NCS spirit wear shirt with their jeans or blue bottoms.
Each year a new action plan is required for students with asthma, life threatening food allergy, seizures, diabetes, migraines, or any other chronic medical diagnoses. Please provide these to your building’s nurse as soon as possible.
Student medications need to be in an original box with a current prescription label. A completed medication permission slip is required in addition to the action plan before the nurse can give your child medication at school. If your child is prescribed a controlled medication that needs to be taken in the middle of the school day, a parent/guardian is required to hand deliver the medication to the school nurse. **Please note that routine AM medications should be administered at home prior to the student’s school day.

HELP US NOT WASTE FOOD! If your student will be absent on a day for which a school lunch has been preordered (regardless of financial status), please notify Mrs. Bigham by 8:00 a.m. on the day of the absence so the meal can be canceled and credited back to your student’s Lunch Works account. Absence notifications received after the school day has begun cannot be credited.
Grab-and-go breakfast is available to all students at NO COST upon arrival at school. Breakfast does not require preordering, and students may choose to pick up a meal before proceeding to their classroom.
Primary School Administration Update
A special note that Thursday, March 5th was Ms. Boonin's last day supporting the Primary School. It has been wonderful to have her here while Ms. Tinsley got to spend time with her little one. Ms. Boonin's leadership and unwavering dedication has left a lasting imprint on the Primary School. Even in retirement, her willingness to return and support speaks volumes about her commitment and love for our school community. I know we will see her around Meece Campus in the future!
We will welcome back Ms. Tinsley, Primary School Principal, on Monday, March 9th! Woo Hoo! We have missed her and can't wait to have her back leading all the amazing things that happen at the Primary Building.
Personal Safety Lesson - Grades 3-5
As part of our classroom guidance standards and in accordance with the State of Delaware requirements, students in grades 3-5 learn about personal safety. Personal safety lessons will be facilitated by the Intermediate school counselors in March/April. NCS uses the child protection curriculum from SecondSTEP. You can learn more about SecondSTEP by visiting
https://www.secondstep.org/childprotection
To learn about the importance of talking with your child and how to talk with your child about personal safety, visit
https://www.earlyopenoften.org/
Students are taught how to stay safe from abuse and how to keep their body safe. Personal safety topics include, but are not limited to the following:
1. Your body belongs to you.
2. No one has the right to hurt your body.
3. Some parts of your body are private. These are the parts covered by your bathing suit.
4. Do not keep secrets from your safe adult.
5. Reviewing the types of touches, which include safe, unsafe, and unwanted touches.
6. Recognizing (Is it safe? What’s the rule), Reporting (Tell an adult), Refusing (Say words that mean no)
7. Introducing or reinforcing SecondSTEP’s eight never-never rules.
Please contact your child’s school counselor if you have any questions or concerns.
Ms. Hinton - 3rd grade
Ms. Donohue - 4th grade
Ms. Banks - 5th grade
The intermediate school has tons of jackets, sweatshirts, hats, gloves, sweaters, and water bottles waiting for their owners to pick them up. Please encourage your student to take a look for missing items before the end of day April 1st. All items left will be donated to the school pantry or Goodwill after dismissal.
International Women's Day
International Women's Day will be celebrated on March 8th. It is a day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women, and a call for gender parity worldwide. Please check out the following video to learn more!
Eid al-Fitr
Eid al-Fitr will be celebrated on March 19th and 20th this year. It is one of the most significant Muslim holidays, marking the end of Ramadan. Please check out the following video to learn more!

United Way of Delaware is proud to partner in sharing this opportunity, and Delaware 211 will follow up with applicants to connect them with related resources and no-cost Stand By Me financial coaching. Together, these supports with Energize Delaware help ensure families not only receive immediate energy relief but also have access to tools for long-term financial stability.
Help is now available for Delaware households struggling with energy bills. The Delmarva Power Customer Relief Fund (for Delmarva Power customers) offers up to $300 in one-time bill assistance for income-eligible families. Funds are limited and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. For non-Delmarva Power customers, Energize Delaware has established the Delaware Energy Fund providing up to $300 in one-time bill assistance for income-eligible families.
To qualify, households must meet income guidelines and take part in a free Energize Delaware energy efficiency program like the Home Energy Checkup. This step ensures families not only receive financial relief but also save on future energy costs. Please share this information with friends, family, or neighbors who may benefit. Additional information may be found here: https://www.energizedelaware.org/delmarva-power-customer-relief-fund/
