The Newark Charter School Board of Directors is accepting nominations for board membership through 10/19/26. The Board of Directors is an eleven-member governing body of parents and community members whose primary responsibilities include policy development and revision, financial stewardship, and committee work, in collaboration with the Head of School. Board members serve three-year terms and may serve up to two consecutive terms. Board meetings are held once a month on the third Tuesday.

A fundamental principle of the Newark Charter School is the importance of parent participation in many areas, including school decision-making.

The School Council serves as an avenue for formal parental involvement in decision making and consists of parent representatives, along with representatives from the Primary, Intermediate, Junior and Senior High Schools. The parent members include one elected representative from each grade level, serving two-year terms.

The primary responsibility of the School Council is to assist and advise management in school operations and long-term planning. One of the School Council’s goals is to administer and analyze school wide surveys that assess satisfaction with many aspects of the school. Additionally, the School Council discusses and provides recommendations on specific topics related to any area within the school including school climate, curriculum, administration and staff, communication, parental input, facilities, finances, student activities, etc.

This year, we are searching for a parent leader in each of the following grade levels:  Kindergarten, Second Grade, Fourth Grade, Seventh Grade, Eighth Grade, Ninth Grade, Tenth Grade, Twelfth Grade.  Please email Mr. Golder at sam.golder@ncs.k12.de.us if you have interest in being on the ballot for one of the open seats.  We will accept nominations through 9/18/26.

Would you like to help Newark Charter School maintain strong financial stewardship and accountability?

Newark Charter School is seeking interested parents and community members to serve on our Citizens Budget Oversight Committee (CBOC). Committee members help promote transparency, accountability, and responsible financial management by providing thoughtful oversight of the school’s financial operations.

We welcome individuals who can contribute their knowledge, experience, and perspective. Per regulation, at least two Committee members must have a formal educational or vocational background appropriate for reviewing and overseeing school financial statements.

What does membership involve?

Members should be prepared to:

• Commit to a two-year term;

• Attend quarterly Committee meetings and actively participate in discussions;

• Complete financial oversight training developed by the Delaware Department of Education within three months of appointment; and

• Serve in accordance with applicable Delaware conflict-of-interest requirements, including § 5805, Title 29 of the Delaware Code.
