Welcome to the North Carolina Music Educators Jazz Education Section!
Please join the state-wide NC Jazz ListServe.
The Jazz Education Section of NCMEA is comprised of the Eastern, Central, and Western Regions of North Carolina. Each region hosts a Jazz Music Performance Adjudication event as well as a regional Honors Jazz Clinic to help students experience and celebrate this truly American music across the state.
Every year, the section sponsors a middle school and high school All-State Jazz Ensemble comprised of some of the North Carolina’s most outstanding musicians, lead by some of the most respected performers and educators in the field.
Each year, professionals from secondary and post-secondary education work together to continue sharing this genre with our students.
This website is intended as an important resource for the instrumental directors of North Carolina. For more information on student events please choose your designated region at the top of the page.

Student Events
Jazz MPA
These regional events will:
Provide a performance opportunity for students and directors that offers a critical assessment of the quality of their performances by highly qualified experts in jazz performance.
Encourage participation in the only state-sanctioned event that provides a summative, standards-based assessment, designed to measure student performance as related to the goals, objectives, and grade-level competencies specified in the North Carolina Standard Course of Study.
Provide the opportunity for students and directors to perform for and learn from their peers in a formal jazz setting.
*Directors must be members of NAfME in order for their students to participate in the Regional Jazz MPA Events.
All-Region Jazz Clinics
These regional events will:
Further develop each student to their fullest potential and foster a love of music and an appreciation of one of America’s true art forms, jazz.
Provide opportunities to explore their interests in the jazz idiom while developing their musical performance skills to the highest level possible.
It is the purpose of the NCMEA Jazz Section to provide an exceptional and enriching experience through extensive music study and performance.
*Directors must be members of NAfME in order for their students to audition and participate in the Regional Jazz Bands.
All-StateJazz Band
The All-State Jazz Band Clinic is typically held in April of each year. Student selection for the North Carolina All-State Jazz Bands is determined by an audition for which students prepare. In order to be eligible to audition for this group, students must have auditioned and attended the regional clinic in either of the following bands: Middle School A, High School A, and High School B jazz ensembles.
*Directors must be members of NAfME in order for their students to audition and participate in the All-State Jazz Bands.
