Cavalcade of Authors West
Writers! Readers! Fan folk! Come field trip with us!
For 4 years, Ms. Murschall has taken between 25-35 MHS/MAA students to the one-day Cavalcade of Authors West in Tacoma to meet and attend workshops with successful, admired, published young adult lit authors (& some illustrators and editors).

"HOW CAN I PARTICIPATE IN THIS PHENOMENAL FIELD TRIP!?"
1. Get a permission slip & itinerary in the library from Ms. Murschall or Pam
2. Seal your place when you turn in your signed permission slip to the library and,
3. Pay $20 to the bookkeeper (or ask her to fine your account $20 to be paid by June. Note: the fine is non-refundable].
4. Register [Ms. Murschall sends you your link] for your author sessions QUICKLY to get the sessions you want. You can only get the code to register when you have turned in your permission slip & paid/agreed to pay. OPEN TBA 2020 THROUGH TBA, 2021.
5. OPTIONAL: Read books by the authors you will be meeting! These titles are available in our library.

Our goal:
MHS Habitat for Humanity is a club which strives to have fun & help our local Habitat for Humanity do all it can to build houses for those in need by:
Having fundraisers! We donate so Habitat has the materials they need to build houses and also...
Building houses! Our 16+ year old members may volunteer on a local Habitat for Humanity build site to participate in creating an actual home for a local family! [More below]
Participate:
Come have fun at one of our fundraisers & bring a friend! All proceeds go to help Portland Metro Habitat for Humanity.
Become a Member:
To be considered and logged as a member of MHS Habitat for Humanity, you need to do three things:
Pay dues: $10 to our bookkeeper
Attend monthly meetings
Get involved in H4H activities
Attend fundraisers and/or
Assist at fundraisers and/or
Attend a build (16+ years old)
Seniors: interested in earning a Habitat for Humanity graduation cord? You must do all of the above, especially one build date.

Builds

Portland's Habitat for Humanity offers us opportunities to volunteer building houses for folks in need in our community.
Limited # 10-13 students per build
Required age: 16 + years
Priority given to seniors who have not worked a build before
Saturdays, 8:30 - 3:30 on site
Usually Jan - May
MHS Habitat dues ($10) must be paid first to our bookkeeper
Habitat & NCSD paperwork turned in to Ms. Murschall
STEPS TO ATTEND A BUILD
16+ years old & going on a build with us?
1) ALL students must fill out & return a signed Habitat Youth Waiver Form
2) ALL students must fill out & return a signed MHS Field Trip permission slip (available here or through the library/Ms. Murschall)
3) ALL students must pay $10 MHS Habitat for Humanity dues to the MHS bookkeeper
4) 18 & above must register at the Habitat portal online (easy & quick)
Students cannot walk onto the build site without items above completed.
