Varsity Letter/
Grade Makeup
All students in any ensemble may qualify for a Vocal Music letter. Students seeking a letter must complete four of the following:
Students wishing to make up an excused absence must participate in, or do one of the following to maintain present grade:
*Attendance at a live concert-symphony, opera, ballet, professional, community, college or high school choir or musical. Type a 1.5 page, double-spaced, 12-font critique of the program, and turn program in with the critique. Rock, country, or rap concerts do not apply. We want to broaden our tastes.
Weekly, private voice lessons. Bring a signed note from your teacher.
Membership in a church or community choir. Must be regular. Bring a signed note from your director. Worship teams qualify.
*Watch a televised or recorded performance. Write a critique of the program. OPB has some great concerts, especially in December.
*Perform two vocal solos in church or community concerts or one at school.
Help with concert setup or tear-down (four concerts).
Help with robes, serve as librarian, section leader or Choir Council member, or serve as an usher for our four home concerts.
*Make a recording and audition for All-Northwest or All-State Choir.
*Play piano for choir during a concert.
Be a member of Cavalaires or Chamber Choir.
*Prepare a solo for district or state solo contest.
Sing in a quartet, octet, or other extra-curricular group at school (i.e. National Anthem for school sports teams, parties, assemblies, be a member of OctaVox, etc.).
Participate in the school musical (cast or stage crew).
Take a class at the Happy Valley Arts Academy or other music school.
Earn two credits for taking a class or summer camp at CCC.
Attend a sight reading conference or other extra-curricular music conference with ANHS or CHS.
Be a T.A. for Mr. Davis.
**APPLIES TO ALL APPLICANTS: Must be in good standing. No unexcused absences, earning an "A".
Near the end of the year, I will ask you to fill out a Letter Credit sheet. If you meet the requirements, fill it out and turn it in. It's that simple. You'll probably even have fun!
*May be repeated once for double credit.
