E Pluribus Unum
For our project, E Pluribus Unum, we focused on Asian American history concerning coalition building with other minority groups. Often times minority groups are pitted against each other through media presentations, court rulings, and general differences. Yet, when it comes down to it, we all want the same thing and we all have the same goal in mind: Equality. This topic was first brought up during a meeting at the Asian Pacific American Club at our school when we discussed the events of Vincent Chin. As Asian Americans ourselves, we became interested in learning more about Asian Americans' roles throughout the history of America, a topic normal history classes seldom delve into. After research and discussion with our project advisor, Mr. Mui, we decided to focus on not just Asian American history, but more so coalition building; because if our research had taught us anything, it was that Asian American history isn’t just the history of Asians in America, it is how Asians American have worked together and with others to strive for nothing less than equity.
